Fripp Island is a private, gated resort island 19 miles east of Beaufort, past St. Helena Island and Hunting Island State Park, with three and a half miles of Atlantic beach, two golf courses, and deer that wander through the yards. Rentals are houses and villas inside the gate, and guests get amenity cards for the pools and beach club. Harbor Island and the Beaufort waterfront round out the inventory. It is quieter and more remote than Hilton Head, an hour to the south.
